How do I fix a leaking hatch (and replace the rim with a new seal)?

Replacing your hard plastic hatch rim on your kayak is relatively easy.

1. If the leak in your rim is small then try the following first with some silicon:
  1. Tear off the removable glue/silicon of the hatch rim where it is leaking as best you can by hand.
  2. Apply one full circle of glue to the hatch rim and screw parts, and especially a good amount where the leak is.

2. If the leak around your rim is large, then we recommend pulling it completely off and re-gluing and re-attaching it. In this video below we should you how to remove the hatch rim, clean it up and reinstall it with proper sealant so it will not leak anymore.  You will need a multi-head screwdriver, a sharp knife and some good quality silicon. Please see instructions (download document at bottom of page)  on a step by step guide to removing old rim and replacing it with a new one.
